Kickstarter - Level 2

Kickstarter jewellery class

Ready to take it to the next level?

If you already have a solid foundation in jewellery making and are ready to further your skills in areas such as stone setting, working in gold, wax carving and advanced fabrication, then we would like to invite you to join our 4-week intensive Level 2 Jewellery Kickstarter Programme in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where you will spend your days in our beautiful studio immersed in metalsmithing, design, stone setting and wax carving.

Due to the complexity of the projects on this course, students must be detail oriented and have taken our Kickstarter Level 1, or have a solid knowledge of jewellery making, metalsmithing and basic stone setting, to be eligible for acceptance. Students must be able to perform the following skills competently in order to join:

Soldering items with more than 5 solder joints

Stone setting skills including flush, bezel, tube, bead and bright, and prong setting for rose cuts and cabochons

Experience in making jewellery items including rings, chains, bangles, pendants and earrings.

This time we’ll be working in gold too!

What do I need to bring?

Just yourselves and a little creativity! Sources of inspiration such as works of your favourite artist or photographs are always helpful so feel free to bring those along.

Do I need to purchase any materials?

All materials for set projects and samples will be provided. We do have additional materials for sale if you wish to make extras, or you can order from our favorite supplier Rio Grande.

What do we do for lunch?

We will break for an hour at 1pm for lunch and there are plenty of places close by to enjoy. Alternatively we have a kitchen with cooking facilities that you are free to use.

Coming from out of town?

We have a few options in terms of accommodation.  Many students stay in Nadi Bangsar or The Establishment where you can get a whole new studio apartment to yourself, both are available on Airbnb and are a 5 minute grab ride from the studio (which costs about 5 Ringgit).  The other option is a serviced apartment called The Nomad which is bookable through Expedia etc, this is about 7 minutes walk to the studio.  All these options cost approximately USD 30 per night.  A firm favourite seems to be Nadi however because there’s a great selection of restaurants within 2 minutes walk as well as a decent coffee shop - most important!

In terms of food, eating out if you like Malaysian / Indian food is super cheap - one meal will probably cost less than USD 3. Food at the supermarket costs pretty much the same as US / UK / Australia,

It’s a pretty easy city to hang out in, most people speak English and transport via grab is super cheap.  And there’s plenty of sights to see at the weekend too.

You don’t need to bring a thing, all tools and consumables will be provided for use during class, as well as all materials for set projects. You’ll even get full colour handouts for each and every project - It’s an all-inclusive deal, there are no hidden fees!
