Delicate Flower Ring
Want to learn how to make a delicate flower ring? No problem! We are going to show you that & so much more!
As well as diving into soldering – while focusing on the right techniques such as torch control from the start – I also want to take you through some beautiful and useful texturing techniques. We’ll be working on a multitude of fun and saleable ring-based projects to help you build confidence while also preparing you for skills you might want to master later on.
Here, we’ll guide you step by step through the wonderful world of soldering, basic forming, saw piercing and texturing as we create a set of stackable rings bands and delicate flower rings together. Whilst soldering experience isn’t required to take this course it’s advisable to take our Chunky Chain online class first! It’s also preferable to have some experience with the basic tools such as a jewellers saw, files and basic finishing techniques. If you don’t have that experience already, check out our Saw Pierced Pendant online class before diving into this one.
In this class, you'll get to...
- Understand basic metal forming techniques with simple and more complex tools
- Understand the annealing process
- Learn how to prepare your own pickle
- Learn to silver solder confidently
- Understand how to use a solder pick
- Use sandpaper effectively
- Learn how to prepare solder for use and store it correctly
- Get to grips with polishing using a tumbler
- Understand that you’re final polish is only as good as your sanding allows

Why we created this class: Probably one of the most popular pieces of jewellery, rings are thankfully not too complicated to make. All we need is to learn how to solder (don't worry we've got you there), a few math skills, and a decent selection of hammers. But as always, we have a little library of tips and tricks up our sleeves to help you along the way.

Practice makes perfect, and that’s why we included downloadable templates for 10 different delicate flower ring designs for you to work on with this class, but don’t be afraid to try new things and think outside the class box. You can even incorporate skills learnt in other classes here such as adding an octopus setting to the center of your flower, or even incorporate a little saw piercing for a spectacular cocktail ring!
As a Metalsmith Academy member, not only do you get access to this class and all our online jewellery making classes, you'll also have access to so much more including...

We love to give you everything you need to get up and running in our classes, so we're always sure to provide tonnes of inspiration for you.
We want more than that though! You know what makes our hearts the happiest? When we see our students getting to grips with finding their own inspiration and developing their own unique styles. But I understand how hard it is to know where to start when it comes to getting inspired: creative block kicks in, and two hours later you’re just staring at a blank page.
I promise you though, it’s just about knowing HOW to look. Inspiration really is everywhere, and we want to show you just how easy it can be to find. So to help do just that, we put together this free e-Book just for you.

5 stars all the way, looks a bit suspect right? Just to make sure, I’d suggest Google reviews too!

A note on tools
The list can go on and on for tool requirements depending on your budget, and we will include a variety of possibilities in our downloadable handouts and during the tutorials. However, we want to make our projects available to everyone irrespective of budget so for the most part we will try not to get too flashy with the essential tools. Please note that in our course materials we give you lots of options in terms of tools, so we strongly recommend watching the course videos before going out on any crazy shopping sprees.
Want to learn more about the tools you really need to get started metalsmithing?
As many times as you like as long as your subscription is active
Yes you will need specific tools for this class, we have included a basic tool list above, and the course contains detailed tool handouts together with product codes for all tools used during the class.
Unfortunately, we can’t provide a specific answer to that questions. It depends on the tools you decide to purchase and the quality. We try to include as many options as possible in our classes so that student’s can make choices based on their budget, but we will be honest, tools are not cheap.
The videos are only playable through the website and so are not downloadable.
Absolutely you can! It would be pretty tough to work with your laptop on your workbench.
If you do want that little extra support, don’t worry at all – that is one of the main reasons why we launched our membership. Lucy, Vennice and the team will be active in the forums daily to help with any problems you might be having with the classes.
This class is a little more advanced, we recommend starting out with the saw pierced pendant class as a first step into metalsmithing.
Unfortunately not at this stage, however our handouts that accompany the videos have extensive, easy to follow instructions.
