Hey, it’s Vennice here! Let’s get to my favourite part of jewellery making: design and rendering. In these classes, I’ll be guiding you step by step through the design process, covering all the basics up to perfecting those more elaborate projects. Why we created these classes: So, you've got ideas in your head, but you don't quite know how to put (coloured) pencil to paper. We want to give you all the tools and practice opportunities so you can shade and render like a pro, while we also school you on a game-changing lesson on highlights and cast shadows.

A note on tools

The list can go on and on for tool requirements depending on your budget, and we will include a variety of possibilities in our downloadable handouts and during the tutorials. However, we want to make our projects available to everyone irrespective of budget so for the most part we will try not to get too flashy with the essential tools.  Please note that we provide you the colour pencil code in the everyday class, you can purchase the colour pencil individually and so we strongly recommend watching the course videos before going out on any crazy shopping sprees.

I can recommend the LWJ Academy very much: Friendly and very encouraging, they make it really fun to learn and make a lot effort to help everybody with every questions in the forums, other students are there to share advice and for a chat as well. I’m so happy I registered in the Metalsmith Academy with Lucy! There’s so many tips I learned that you won’t see on YouTube and I bought many new tools recommended in the classes to make jewelry ! The videos are well explained and you can also downloaded a PDF of the classes! 🙂 It’s like going to school but online, and it’s worth the money! I have taken several of Lucy Walker’s online classes. These are excellent productions: clear concise ( and fun) instruction focusing on skill development while completing a project you would be proud to wear..or sell. Lucy is very generous in sharing all she knows. Good for beginners? Yes. But even for more experienced jewelers like myself there is a treasure trove of tips, from the proper way to hold tools to polishing and finishing techniques that have brought my jewelry to the next level. I highly recommend these classes. And the bonus? They are very reasonably priced. You will not be disappointed.

This is one of the very best people to learn from if you want to make jewelry! Lucy's online classes break down everything you need including a list of suggested tools to make life easier. Her video instructions are superb quality and show step by step instructions for even basic tasks (like how to properly hold a saw, etc.). Yes you will need specific tools for this class, we have included a basic tool list above, and the course contains detailed tool handouts together with product codes for all tools used during the class.

Unfortunately, we can’t provide a specific answer to that questions.  It depends on the tools you decide to purchase and the quality.  We try to include as many options as possible in our classes so that student’s can make choices based on their budget, but we will be honest, tools are not cheap.

The videos are only playable through the website and so are not downloadable.

Absolutely you can!  It would be pretty tough to work with your laptop on your workbench.

If you do want that little extra support, don’t worry at all – that is one of the main reasons why we launched our membership.  Lucy, Vennice and the team will be active in the forums daily to help with any problems you might be having with the classes.

This class is the best place to start!

Unfortunately not at this stage, however our handouts that accompany the videos have extensive, easy to follow instructions.
